　　FLORENCE, S.C. – Perhaps the most notable facet of Otis Elevator’s Florence facility is the 150-foot eco-friendly test tower that can be seen from U.S. 52 and Interstate 95. It is used to develop and test the company’s latest innovations.

　　While the tower is impressive, it isn’t the only outstanding aspect at the facility. The Otis Elevator Florence plant fully reflects Otis Elevator’s end-to-end environmental protection commitment.

　　The 423,000-square-foot converted Maytag plant serves as the company’s main manufacturing facility for the United States and Canada, making it a continually growing production giant in the Pee Dee.

　　Throughout 2014, the plant implemented high-efficiency heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and lighting systems to reduce overall omission outputs. As part of the effort, the company has incorporated product designs that eliminate some painting and welding processes.

　　Otis, a part of United Technologies Corporation, was at the forefront of the 2014 trend to modernize elevator systems in older buildings to make them more energy efficient.

　　Otis in Florence combines manufacturing, engineering, contract logistics and field support expertise of Gen2 and HydroFit systems that go toward major projects worldwide.The line of Gen2 elevators utilizes Otis’ patented polyurethane-coated steel belts. Flexible belts make the Gen2 machine 70 percent smaller and up to 50 percent more efficient than conventional geared machines. A more compact, energy-efficient machine also frees up valuable building space and reduces operating costs.

　　The company has led elevator and escalator system modernization projects at some of the world’s most iconic buildings, including the Empire State Building in New York City and Los Angeles International Airport.
