　　62 ELEVATORS IN ARMENIAN CAPITAL DEEMED UNFIT FOR USE

　　Armenia’s National Center for Technical Safety inspected 2,938 of the 4,642 elevators in residential buildings throughout the capital city of Yerevan and found 62 unfit for use, Arka News Agency reports. An official says these elevators could cause “manmade accidents” and ordered them shut down, if possible, until the faults are rectified. She notes that some elevators serve elderly and disabled residents and are necessary, since the residents cannot climb stairs. Most of Yerevan’s residential elevators were inherited from the former Soviet Union and have exceeded their useful lifespan of approximately 25 years.
