VT EQUIPMENT TO MAKE MASSACHUSETTS STATION ADA-COMPLIANT
Three new elevators are among US$33 million in upgrades scheduled for completion in August at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) Wollaston Station in Quincy, Massachusetts, The Patriot Ledger reports. New vertical-transportation (VT) equipment also includes a pair of escalators, part of an overhaul that began in January 2018 and will bring the station into compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). Wollaston is currently the only Red Line station not compliant. In the interim, MBTA has hired shuttle buses to carry commuters between the North Quincy, Wollaston and Quincy Center stations, but disability activists have complained that there have been problems such as buses that lack functioning wheelchair lifts.
